While it's true you could add additional processing power to the NES through extra chips (i.e. so 2-bit tiles like on the nes can support up to 4 colors without any additional programming i have no way to be sure of that, thoughĪlso, n-bit graphics don't have n colors, they have 2 n colors. i would guess that the artists who worked on the graphics for the nes mario games created them using a program that actually displayed them as graphics and allowed pixel editing. however, the process of creating other types of binary is different.
#Mario nes pack code#
machine code is simply binary meant to be treated as a program, and as you said, there's no real difference between this binary machine code and binary graphics in the end, all the code and graphics (and music, level data, and whatever else the game needs) are combined into one long binary file, and this long file is what's actually found inside a game cartridge. assembly is a programming language, and a program written in assembly can be converted into a type of binary called machine code by a program called an assembler. The distinction is probably a little bit esoteric, since even most programmers don't deal with either on a regular basis anymore. what you're saying about graphics and code on the nes being fundamentally the same thing is true, but that thing isn't called assembly. Good comment, but i'd like to nitpick a little bit. Six subreddits from this multireddit are randomly shuffled every hour. You can also read the rules in more depth on our wiki.
